An-Xileel

Welcome fellow scale brothers and sisters! I would like to ask of you for help in a mod I'm making for Stellaris, which is a game you may or may not know of. In short, it is a game recently released by Paradox Studios and I wish to bring the Argonians to SPAAAAAAAAACE!!!

I want to feature your character portraits and names in the game itself, and have already added two portraits to the mod. If any of you play Stellaris, I will be releasing the mod on the Steam Workshop when it is complete.



Here is a sample image of Zhee-Ra, my main. Basically, in order to add her to the game, I need to cut out the background, and resize her into a dds file that the game uses for portraits. If you are interested, I would request a picture of your Argonian as follows:

1. Be in the login screen with the character and desired armor.
2. Minimize weapon exposure. In the picture above Zhee has a staff. That is perfectly okay, but a weapon like a longsword will be harder to crop out.
3. Try to make it at the same rough angle as Zhee in the picture. She's gazing off in the distance at about a 5-15 degree angle offset.
4. Maximize your graphics settings before you take the shot! I want the quality to be as consistent as possible.
5. Make sure to zoom in as far as you can. With Zhee's picture, I am zoomed all the way in. Don't worry about the play button there, I have to cut a lot of the lower end of the image anyway.

So when you finally take your shot, simply use the printscreen button that you have beside the scroll lock key that you may have never knew existed. This captures your screen at the time of press. Then paste the image in paint or another graphics program like GIMP or Photoshop and export it as a .png file. Then link the full quality image here so I can crop the image and edit out the background. Note: imgur loves to transform the images into jpg quality automatically. It would be much preferred if you can send the png files directly to "kite.akcornstudios@gmail.com".

EDIT: If for some reason you get a black screen when pasting into an image editing program, try to take the picture in ESO using Fixed Windowed or Windowed mode instead of Fullscreen. I have received reports of people only seeing a black screen when they paste it to paint for instance, but taking it in Fixed Windowed mode solved the problem.

This is Zhee after the crop. Sadly, this isn't the same exact picture as you can see from her wardrobe change. I don't actually have the original picture for that... whoops!




This is Kra'at, my former main. I was smart here and actually saved the original image for him, but this is what the final image looks like after I remove the background.




Currently, I only have my two Argonians in the game, but I wish to add many many more, hopefully at least 20 portraits in total. More may be made depending on how many people I get volunteering!



If any of you are interested I'd love to add you in the mod! Along with the portrait, I'd be adding your names to the game as well so please throw me some Argonian names, even if you don't have a submission. Anything from uesp.net won't work though as I already have all those names from that pool, except the Argonian namelists from Arena. Their names were weird there... Oh sure, why not? I wasn't sure which would look better, so I pulled two images. One with hood, one without. Also, for names, do you want Jel only? Or are "translated" names ok? As soon as I can, I'm renaming my main "Listens-to-the-Rain." After my last RP, I realized people would shorten my character's current name to "Speaks" and we already have one of those. XP

Any name will do. I have three types of Argonian names. One-Word Names (eg. Deejeeta), Hyphen Names (mostly - eg. Zhee-Ra), and Cyrodiilic names (eg. Pulls-Ropes-Faster). The first two types of names are the only ones that can spawn in the faction of An-Xileel that I have prescripted for the game, since in the 4th era, An-Xileel are quite Xenophobic. Gee-Rusleel, or Miredancers I let all three types of names go through. In your case, Listens-to-the-Rain would be Cyrodiilic. If you have any other Argonian characters or just thoughts of names I can easily add them.

--On the pictures, you saved them both in jpeg format. This format loses a LOT of detail. This is especially noticeable when zoomed in at 800% making paths so I can cut out the background. I can still cut out the background, but it does make it harder. If you have the time to retake the images in png format so the detail isn't lost that would be preferred, but jpeg is still possible to do. Also, which portrait is preferred? Both should work out just fine.

Sorry about that. I saved them as .png files, but when I uploaded them, they must have switched to .jpg. It seems imgur.com is insistent on making them jpgs. Are there any other options?

As for your other questions, I think I prefer the image with the hood. So that's the one I'll be re-uploading as soon as I figure out how. XP As far as the name goes, that's all I have right now. I cobbled one together from uesp.net, but I think you said those won't work. If I come up with one, I'll let you know.

Yeah, had the same problem with another person. Only thing I can think of would be emailing them directly to me at "kite.akcornstudios@gmail.com" without the quotes. Thanks again!

I should have worded that paragraph better. What I meant is that I already have all the names in the namelist from uesp.net for the game to use, so adding another one from there would only give a better chance for that name to pop up in the game.

This image is in jpg format. It is still possible to work with, but when zooming in to get rid of the background, the colors muddle together, making the image lose quality and making it hard to work with. His orientation is also the opposite of what it should be. He is slightly facing to the left, when he should be slightly facing to the right, at least from out perspective. I can fix it by mirroring the image but his shoulder pads will be on the other shoulder.

If you do have the time to retake the picture and send it to my email at kite.akcornstudios@gmail.com as a png and change his orientation that would be most appreciated, otherwise I will work around it.

I would like to thank everyone for their submissions! So far we have 10 male and 4 female portraits (1 male is still waiting on my lazy ass to get done). If anyone has more female Argonians (males too!) to share I am in dire need of them!

Thanks for your submission! Sadly, this picture won't work. It cuts off some of his features. Most notably his feathers. It would look a little weird with his feathers suddenly stopping after the crop. I could make do with how it clips off some of his shoulders though, but if you can take another picture that doesn't cut him off on the sides and head and save it as a png, and email it to kite.akcornstudios@gmail.com that would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Don't worry about cropping those out, I do that when I prepare the image for cropping out the background. If you wish, you can crop the right side of the screen where it lists all of your characters on the account. But everything else I can get rid of as I work on the picture.

I would much prefer it if you emailed it to me at kite.akcornstudios@gmail.com. Otherwise. you can click the image icon at the top of a post and paste the link of the picture there. You will have to first post the picture to a website such as imgur and use the url that that site gives you to link the image, but email is preferred as imgur at least likes to convert png files into jpegs for space purposes, and png's are of higher quality and is why I desire those.
